“Artur”: A Film About a Writer Who Gave Kindness a Voice

Three years ago, Artur Dron—a poet and veteran—created an Excel spreadsheet on his computer and called it “The Literary Million.” That was the amount, in hryvnias, he dreamed of raising to support children through our Foundation. Eventually, the file had to be renamed: the number in it was growing faster than the title could keep up with the story.

Today, that spreadsheet already shows more than UAH 2.5 million ($55,000+) raised. A simple post or article thanking Artur did not feel like enough.

So, we made a film.
“Artur” is a documentary portrait of a Ukrainian writer and soldier. He went to war, but never stopped writing. The poems he wrote during his military service became the poetry collection “We Were Here”, which later inspired a remarkable charitable initiative. In the film, Artur reflects on war, childhood, literature, and responsibility. He speaks about the human capacity to find light even in the darkest circumstances, especially in children.

When we speak of hope,
what we are really speaking of
is children.
— Artur Dron, from the poetry collection "We Were Here".
It all began in 2023, when Artur set himself an ambitious goal: to raise a “literary million” for the children supported by the Voices of Children Foundation. Gradually, a community of caring people formed around his book and charity readings. Artur speaks openly about his charitable work. He wants readers to see the impact of their support: a book for UAH 300, a ticket to a literary evening, or even a postcard can all add up to meaningful support for specific children.

These funds help children of Ukraine’s defenders access rehabilitation, speech therapy, behavioral courses, and psychological support. For example:
  • at an evening at Kyiv’s Molodyy Theater, Artur raised UAH 115,000 ($2,550+) for children with autism spectrum disorder whose parents are defending Ukraine;
  • for his birthday, instead of gifts, he asked people to support wounded children and raised UAH 241,000 ($5,350+);
  • a charity evening at the Lviv House of Officers added another UAH 627,000 ($13,900+) to the total amount of support.

Our film is a story about a personal dream becoming a shared cause. And about doing good out loud, so it can inspire others.

Support children with a donation. Even a small contribution adds to the shared total and turns into care for those affected by the war.

What Happens to Ukrainian Children After Returning from Russian Occupation: A Voices of Children Analytical Study

“I Feel Like I’m at Home Here”: How Voices of Children Psychologists Supported Children in April and May
"I feel so good here. It feels like home!" — this is how eight-year-old Aniuta described her sessions at the Voices of Children center in Kropyvnytskyi. Over the past two spring months, there have been many moments like this across our regional centers. Children learned how to cope with stress, while parents found opportunities to pause and take care of themselves.
