Our Policies on Working with Children

Over the years of Russian full-scale invasion and more than a decade of Russia's war against Ukraine, it is important to shed light on how children experience this reality. At the same time, one of the Foundation's core values is respect for the dignity and rights of every child.

The Foundation has developed a Child Protection Policy, which every staff member is required to read and acknowledge. The Policy covers the operating principles of the Voices of Children Foundation, legislation on guaranteeing children's rights, the Foundation's code of ethics on child protection, prevention of child protection policy violations, recognition of child abuse, response procedures for suspected child abuse, and the regulatory documents that guide Voices of Children Foundation specialists.

The full Child Protection Policy of the Voices of Children Foundation is available below.

Our goal is to build a culture within the Foundation where every single member does everything in their power to uphold and protect children's rights.
Our team members respect the dignity and rights of every child under all circumstances. We maintain confidentiality when receiving information from a child and do not permit the misuse of any personal information about a child. Discrimination against children on any grounds is unacceptable to us.

The Foundation upholds the principle of the best interests of the child in all activities of any nature.

One of the Voices of Children Foundation's core objectives is to give children a voice. We want to enable children to speak up and be heard. It is important to us to guarantee every child the right to freely express their views, while ensuring that those views are given due weight in accordance with the child's age and maturity. To this end, we involve children in our public events, video content, and other activities.

Since children have experienced (and continue to experience) many traumatic events and may be in a range of psychological states, it is essential not to re-traumatize them through participation in public events. For this reason, we follow strict guidelines regarding children's involvement in public-facing activities.
  • Children who participate in public events have completed a course of sessions with a psychologist or psychotherapist. They are psychologically recovered and resilient.
  • The child wishes to speak, and their words are not censored.
  • Parents provide official written consent for their child's participation in public events or photo and video recording.
  • We do not permit the publication of any story or image that could endanger a child or their family.
  • The Voices of Children Foundation advocates for all decisions and all activities involving children to be organized with a view to protecting the child's best interests and rights.
Treat children the way you would want your own to be treated.
