"My Dream Is to Become a Video Game Developer": The Story of 12-Year-Old Artem from Kramatorsk
This is Artem. When we asked him, "What is your dream? What would you like to do?" he answered, "To become a video game developer because that fascinates me the most." He is one of those children who never give up and continue moving toward their goals, even in the darkest times.
Before Russia's full-scale invasion, Artem lived with his family in Kramatorsk. His mother, Mrs. Kateryna, stayed there with her two sons until the very last moment and didn't want to leave the dangerous place.
The windows in the child's room were boarded up and stacked with books for safety. Each family member had their go bag packed, but they all hoped they would never have to use them,
In April 2022, when Russian forces shelled Kramatorsk railway station, where a lot of people were evacuating from the Donetsk region at that moment, Artem's family was more terrified than ever before. That day, Russia killed 61 people and injured over 120. There were close friends of the family among them.
Kateryna realized that she had to get the children out. The following day, they left for Kyiv, where they have been living ever since. Artem is now studying remotely and regularly visits our Center in Kyiv. The boy has a speech disorder, which made it difficult for him to socialize. But he has made friends and found a supportive community at our Center. You can support our work by donating here.
