“I Draw and Donate the Money to the Armed Forces of Ukraine”: How Polina from Volnovakha Is Healing Emotionally After Everything She’s Been Through

Nine-year-old Polina from Volnovakha, Donetsk region, spent the first weeks of Russia’s full-scale war in basements together with her younger sister and parents. At first, they couldn’t leave their hometown because there was no connection and constant shelling. When they finally managed to escape across the fields to the town of Polohy in Zaporizhzhia region, the shelling began there too.

While her younger sister reacted to stress by sleeping for unusually long periods, Polina spent a lot of time drawing. Now the family lives in Yuzhnoukrainsk, Mykolaiv region, where the girl attends sessions with psychologists from the Mobile Teams project of the Voices of Children Charitable Foundation
