On 27 September, the Academic Council of the Ukrainian Scientific and Methodological Centre for Practical Psychology and Social Work approved and recommended for publication the CAMP+ Programme for Psychological Recovery of Families Affected by Military Operations in Ukraine. It was created by the psychologists of the Voices of Children Charity Foundation.
"CAMP+” is a free 21-day programme in the Carpathians for families who have experienced severe traumatic experiences due to the war:
- loss of a loved one at the frontline or from rocket/artillery shelling;
- children with injuries;
- families with an indefinite loss (missing persons, captivity);
- irreversible loss of home or deportation to Russia.
Participating families live in houses in the mountains and undergo rehabilitation with specialists. The camp programme includes art therapy, gestalt therapy, group and individual consultations. Families are placed in a supportive environment: specialists create conditions in which they can safely experience emotions related to loss, uncertainty and fear for their loved ones.
The Voices of Children Foundation organises four sessions a year. Over the past two years, 239 children and 183 adults have taken part in the “Camp+” programme.
"The idea of creating CAMP+ was born in June 2022 as a response to the difficult psycho-emotional states of children and their parents. These are shock reactions, confusion, a sense of uncertainty, etc. It is known that the condition of children directly depends on the ability of parents to be an emotional support for the child. That is why we decided, in addition to providing psychological assistance in 6 branches and online help, to implement the idea of helping to stabilise entire families," said Ruslana Moroz, expert, supervision coordinator and methodologist of the Psychosocial Support and Rehabilitation Programme of the Voices of Children Foundation.
After the three-week programme, the families continue to have individual sessions with psychologists and participate in group meetings.
The programme was developed by the Voices of Children psychologists who worked directly with the CAMP+ participants: Marina Drobysheva, Roman Drobyshev, Elena Ivanova, Galina Nomirovskaya, Oksana Pisareva, Svetlana Filippova, and Ruslana Moroz.
